The Housing Connection provides support services to adults with a disability. At The Housing Connection we put the needs of the individual first and tailor services to meet identified needs.

The work of The Housing Connection is guided by a commitment to giving voice to the most historically excluded within our society and in challenging structural inequality. To ensuring the best quality of life possible for each individual and providing direct innovative services to ensure people with disabilities have the opportunity to develop skills, to have a valued role in the community, and are able to participate as full and equal members.

Promoting care and well being

The organisation was established by parents in 1981 - The International Year of the Disabled - under our previous name The Lower North Shore Disabled Persons Action Group. This group was concerned about the accommodation options available to children and young adults with an intellectual disability and were seeking community based support options.

Community based support options is an ongoing key feature of our activities. We currently provide the following:

• supported accommodation
• transition to work

Eligibility

The Housing Connection supports people whom:

1. Have a disability
2. Are over the age of eighteen
3. Receive some form of income, and
4. Need help in learning, improving, maintaining and applying the skills needed to live an active, involved life in the community of choice.

The Housing Connection currently provides services in the local government areas of Lane Cove, North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Ku-ring-gai, Ryde, Manly, Warringah, within 40 minutes travelling time from the Chatswood office.

In 2008 the organisation has undertaken to expand services to the Eastern suburbs in line with local requests to provide The Housing Connection model of support with this area. Areas of expansion for consideration will be called The Housing Connection (East) and will include: Woollahra, Waverly and Randwick.

Provision of services within the above local government areas will be considered on a case basis and will require the approval of the Board to ensure that services are provided within available resources.
