Supported Independent Living

Moving in and out

The people we support may live in disability accommodation provided by Community Housing or the Department of Housing, in family homes, or in rented units and houses. We can assist people to find suitable disability housing and help the person and their families through the process of moving in and out.

We provide skills development to support people before, during and after moving homes. We work collaboratively to focus on finding solutions, building partnerships with accommodation suppliers and the community to provide the best disability accommodation for the people we support.

Find your Dream Home with The Housing Connection

Supporting people to live in their own home, independently, in their community is an integral focus area of our services, and our purpose for the last 40 years. Finding suitable homes – bricks and mortar options – is a challenge and THC continues to work closely with local Community Housing providers for Social Housing options and also working with developers in pursuit of Specialist Disability Accommodation (NDIS SDA) to accommodate more people seeking disability housing.

Our approach to assisting people to find their dream home is always unique to each person’s needs and we aim to work with them to adjust and build skills through the process of transitioning into a new home.

“The Housing Connection has supported our son to live independently for 29 years. The staff at THC are excellent and truly put our son at the centre of everything they do. We are so delighted with the quality of the service he receives. They assist him to engage in the community and we have seen dramatic improvements in his social and living skills. We would not want him to go anywhere else.”

Our Homes

The Housing Connection's SIL home in Roseville
Roseville is a large house which has been a long term home for some and a launching pad to a higher level of independent living for many others. We have seen many people transition from care in large institutions to Roseville and then move on to their own flat or house with varying levels of support – a recognition of their newly gained independent living skills. Roseville hosts many barbeques and other social functions for members of The Housing Connection community.
The Housing Connection's William St property in Chatswood
William Street is part of a group of residential properties with shared gardens on the Roseville/Chatswood border, with easy access to public transport and a full range of community facilities. Six people supported by The Housing Connection live there in four self- contained units with a separate ‘staff pod’ which has a staff member on hand 24 hours each day. A multi skilled team provides one to one support to assist residents to build independent living skills and to connect with their neighbours and the wider community. William Street is a peaceful and happy place that has become a much loved hub for The Housing Connection community.
Supported home for people with disability
Artarmon is a 4 bedroom block of units that provide individual and shared supports. We call Artarmon our blokey building where 5 men from our community are residing. Artarmon has a long history at THC with lots of stories and a lot of wonderful memories for most staff, clients and families associated with Artarmon.  These block of units offer 24/7 support.

“It is the perfect mixture for us, and it can only happen because THC supports us to live the life we choose and not the life someone else thinks we should have. Because of THC, we have an exciting new life together, doing the things we want to do, with the people we want to do them with.”
